For inspiration, I chose the finest example of calligraphic type: Zapfino. This is an adapted, remodelled, and reverse engineered version in pixels. Work in progress.
Awesome! Can you finish basic latin so I have a bit more to work with.
Can you also add a higher hyphen for all caps
Wow. Very beautiful glyphs. The variation of stroke thickness is inspirational to see.
@Brynda: Asking a designer to finish the font so that you can look at it and get more out of it is quite disrespectful. Be grateful for what the designer has shared and do your own thing. This font was not created as a teaching tool for you but as a showcase for his vision and skill. If you like it you can be gracious and publically appeciate it. Then let it rest.
Fontstruct is a nice community of seasoned and novice type designers. We would like to keep it that way. All are welcome as long as they are decent in interaction. Your enthusiasm to learn and grow is appreciated, but not your approach. Be nice.
Impressive how you craft these elegant and delicate shapes using only the bold pixel as a building block!
@T, When I see an incomplete font, I think that the font designer should add more.
I think you are missing a brick on #...
@Rob Meek: Thank you very much fo the special mention. I had two fontstructions in the making for the Competition: Reverse; this is one of them. Unfortunately, I couldn't arrange more free time to complete it. The kerning feature has been used extensively, and it worked like charm.
@Brynda: Thank you for your comments. This is still a work in progress, and far from complete. I plan to rework the B,D,Y, maybe the g, replace all the numbers with oldstyle figures, and add more special characters, punctuation marks, etc. Perhaps, for an OpenType version I might add alternate glyphs as well. I enabled cloning so anyone interested could make his/her own version. The #: the "missing" pixel is intentional. As it's a calligraphic font there ought to be some imperfections.
@thalamic: Thank you for your comments. I agree with every word of yours. It is not nice badgering members for a little of this and a little of that. At first, I thought he was a troll doing this out of boredom. After seeing his phenomenal activity on this forum, I realised he is genuinly interested in font matters. He is a nice guy just infected by the type virus: he is overly excited about new things, keeps delving into minute details (a prerequisite for any prospective designers), and feels the need for more completeness. His comments, though some times inappropriate, nudged me to improve things, rethink a problem from a different angle, or add more alternate glyphs. I cannot deny, it helped me to improve my works.

Wow, the sample really shows how well this works even in longer texts. Looking at the screen from a little distance, the pixels disappear and all I see is a beautifully refined and very legible calligraphic script. All men are created equal.
Stellar. Swashtastic. Organic. Natural. No artificial ingredients. Methinks perhaps that the 'H' is a tad bit wide, and mayhaps the 'N' to a lesser degree.
What a beauty, dear master!!!!
wow very impressive at such a small grid, bravo 10
Maybe you can add an alternate the very long, fancy and famous lowercase 'f' which made the signature of this font ;)
Beautiful 'derived' work, with perhaps too many jaggies for my trained eyes (advanced pixel art in mind). Looking forward to what make the original type famous (ornaments, variants - without begging). Any clue about your font name (Myrtille)? Have a nice week-end!
I love your work, Check out mine please.
Ok, this is so amazing. I literally have no idea how you even space & kern fonts like this.
Indeed Herman . . . well, sort of did. Optima was originally a concept design from Dwiggins. I do like that he finished it, though, because it's awesome. :)
The font in my eyes is a masterpiece.Well in my opinion anyways
