An original Art font that uses the tops, bottoms & sometimes middles of a font to communicate the character. This requires users to read texts as opposed to scanning them, but because visual cues are available it is still legible.

This novel design has not a single cobweb anywhere ;) Ideal for places where one (font) encounters drafts :D Where should I go to look for the bricks already blown away *lol* Does the LatinA U&u need a "halo" ?
Hmmm... I thought I had fixed them. I did get a warning about a newer copy on the server once, but I exited upon that message. I guess I'll go back and add whatever it needs.
Hmmm... which halo is better, the new one I just did for those, or the older ones that are more in line with how I made the Os?
Argh. I think I better fix the new halos.
Inspired by the first font I ever bought, Stop font, and one I just commented on a bit ago, with some of the abstractness also inspired by FontStruct's logo.
Funny, how when I view this on this page, it looks like "F !RED!" in the tab because of the Fonstruct F icon.
One has to love those "burger buns with extra no-calories filling" *giggles* I wonder if it would be better (visually) if the gap between the bun halves was like on the bullet?
@Dp The tabs display the icon on the left side...
Ooooh, no, no, no, @Aeolien... The strength of this project is the abstractness, even though it all makes sense. It all hinges on the negative space. The capital O has more negative space than the o because it's more important. Placed alone, the characters don't look like much and probably wouldn't be recognized as letter forms. But in a sentance, they shine through the artistry of negative space and how our eyes seek to recognize familiar shapes.
Of course, the bigger the hole, the bigger the negative space and all that jazz. That's why I had to redo the halo, everything is bloated, even the accents, and those halos are the biggest accent character, a perfect ring with a huge gapping hole. The O has 4 missing lines of blocks. The o has 3 missing lines. The halo has 2 missing lines of blocks. But even the periods and accents have gaps, and if I only have 1 line of missing blocks in the halos, they start to look like the periods, bullets, etc... There has to be a method to the madness. ;)
@77: "The tabs display the icon on the left side." Yup. The FontStruct F icon, then !RED! so that it looks like Fired! (F !RED!).
... and there I was thinking of getting my head into more 'bun' and less 'air' ;) yes, some madness in the method helps almost everyfont that's more abstract than the ""New Italian Capital Times"" :D Did I say that !Red! is great?! Oh, I just did ...
;) Thanks, Aelien! ;)
I still have some work to do, but I am happy with what I have done so far. I think it's more of an art font that someone would download for posters, tees, gear and maybe logos. Not so much a web font, but what the heck, I might as well submit it to Google Fonts anyway (when done).
The anti-display font? I think that David Carson would be proud of me for this one. :D
On a serious note: it reminds me a little of FontStruct's own font. Having larger 'gaps' between the black parts of the glyphs makes it more abstract: a font for people who pay attention. As it's extended people all over Europe can use it for texts (thank you).
I wonder if I should take the stroke out of the 7, or not?
OK, I think it's ready to contribute to Google Fonts, if there isn't anything else I should change. I'm still mulling over the #7. A 7 with a stroke is more of a favorite for me, but I don't think it does well in this font, with this style. Let me know if you see anything I should address. Google Fonts may not take it, it might be too abstract for them. But I'm going to try it anyway, that's why I renamed it from !RED! to RED and I am trying to think of an even better name. Anyone have a font name suggestion?
RED is no good, already 3 of them. The ! makes it hard to load in some tool, maybe Illustrator, maybe Fontographer, but whatever it is, I don't want to cause any issues. So I need a new name for it. Blown Out? That one is available.
Hmmm... when I edit the name, it never sticks.
For some reason, the < & > were messed-up (block switching? Nothing else seemed effected). FIXED!
OK, resubmitting to Google Fonts, now.
Good luck; let us know how things are done there.
I am wondering if something is wrong with the Fonstructbot?
The GitHub link to the archive produces a 404 Page Not Found Error:
https://github.com/FontStruct/google-fonts-contributions/tree/master/fontstructions/1509250
Is it because the archive is private until it is confirmed as an approved submission and not public (which seems a bit wierd to me for an OFL freeware font in a public repository of open source and freeware code and software), or is there an issue with the FontStructbot?
The FontStructBot created issue is here:
https://github.com/google/fonts/issues/1528
And I did make the same inquiry there, but it strikes me that this may be an issue with FontStructBot, so I thought Meek should know.
Yes. I"ll look into it as soon as I can.
Fixed. The best place to inform me about this is on the FontStruct github. Or via our contact page. Thx!
Thanks, @Meek. I did send you a message via the contact page (the github link didn't seem to work).
I threw this preview together, it's not as easy to see the characters, but I think it's cooler. ;)
I ran into some spacing issues while working with the font. I think they may well all be addressed, now.
Whoops. Not all addressed, yet.
OK. Maybe just a couple of stragglers I'll take care of later.
The server returned a "500 Internal Server Error". *sigh* It seems the automated update doesn't work so hot anymore.
Alright, all the spacing issues I came across seem to be resolved. I will have to make all new preview images, not just because of the spacing, but I also touched-up a couple things like the zero, stroked O and stroked o, the low lying 9 quotes and changed the capital C. So, I'll make the new preview images make a whole new documented distribution archive, and upload that from my other account to the issue in GitHub. Wish me luck.
HELP! I am logged in editing in Fontstructor in FireFox and I have kerned everything. But I can't save it (see screenshot). Is there a hotkey to save? I am writing this in Chrome because I didn't want to open another window/tab in FireFox and screw things up.
It doesn't matter whether I am full screen (as seen in the previous post) or not. I cannot see the menu, and unless there is a hotkey, I cannot save because there is no menu option to save. I took all evening to get those characters kerned. Please, HELP!
Thank you.
@Fontstruct... Help? See last two posts. If I try to "refresh" the browser window, I get a little pop-up alert window asking if I want to leave the page. So, I don't. But I cannot save. I think you should put a save button in that window, or a save link in the drop down menu. I cannot see the -back- button in the preview window. My only option is to leave the page, and I worked long and hard to get all those characters kerned. Please help?
@SymbioticDesign: The hotkey to save is (S). This will work as long as your cursor is focused on anything other than the kerning palette, spacing palette, zoom slider, or preview area. So click on just about any other non-linking UX element and press (S). *Also, the hotkey to switch back to the FontStructor is (P). That bug you’ve encountered where the navigation buttons scroll until hidden is tricky. Good Luck!
@will.i.ૐ That's the issue. I am in the preview area where I have been kerning page after page. I cannot go back, I can't see that back button. I cannot save, that button is also hidden. The Kerning window is closed and cannot be opened because the button or option is hidden. The spacing window is closed and cannot be opened because that button or option is hidden. If I type an S an S appears in the section I can type in. IF I type a P, a P appears in the section I can type in. I'll try and put the cursor in the bottom display window and try it, now. I forgot about that partial frame.
I think you can also click on the grey bar of the fontstruct header or footer to set the focus out of the preview area. Alternatively, you could click on the zoom slider (if you can still see it) and then press tab to cycle focus out of the preview area. Hopefully one of these techniques works and you save all that work!
@will.i.ૐ THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!
Obviously, it worked. THANK YOU! I hadn't only been kerning, but taking snapshots of my kerning, which is a lot of work.
I had submitted the font at dafont, but wasn't using normal widths, instead using a global spacing setting (which I think is why it was rejected). I was experimenting with an experimental font, after all. But this has become one of my favorite fonts because it looks like Christmas decorations hanging on a tree. Someone else at Google Fonts said it reminded him of toys.
Anyways, I reset the spacing for every character and went through and kerned everything I normally would and took a snapsot of each page and assembled a very large PNG in Photoshop to show I went through it all, I am so very happy to have this saved the way I snapshot each page of kerning work.
Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!
@SymbioticDesign: Cheers, mate!
