Subtractive methods and filters...
Yes, the filter sets the brick size to 0.99 so that these diamond shapes don't cause issues with rendering. It's a known FS glitch and hardly worth nitpicking over. :P
EDIT: This was tested with filter size 1 and seen to produce no rendering issues. So, this no longer uses filters at all.
I wonder if making the sizes of the diamonds follow the fibonacci series would make the effect even cooler.
Though that sounds like a great idea, I'm at a loss as to how I would fit the 3 into these structures, let alone the 5, 8, 13 and so on. It'd have to be built on a massive scale.
