Based on an Old English font - with a few personal tweaks here and there

I undertook this font to find out how to create curves using FS. The curves look fairly smooth up to around 36 point ... then the angles start to show up.

Still, I enjoyed the challenge and hope the result isn't too bad.

Wow! It's beautiful. The $ is wicked.

Magnificent! I even like the rugged polyginal look. It appears as if the letters had been forged from iron. Very skillful.
Comment by Frodo7 11th july 2009
this is great work!

Wow, impressive work.

I agree with Frodo7 – the geometric traces of FontStruct give this design a very particular, interesting finishing.

Still, the non-alphabetic glyphs look as if they were made later, as an afterthought – I feel that they are not well integrated into the basic design style.

Maybe it helps to have a look at samples of other letters in the same style?

Thanks for the positive comments, it is really satisfying to get one's efforts rated in this way. The peer-review aspect of FS is great and can only help to sharpen the creative 'pencil'

Thank you as well Gustavo for the constuctive criticism ... I must admit I made up the non-alphabetic stuff 'on the hoof'. Not having a design background I am always grateful for any guidance :) Unfortunately the link didn't work and I would love to follow this up. Perhaps you would be kind enough to post it again.

...the link didn't work...

Oops, sorry about that. It was just a search for ‘Old English Letters‘ on Google Images:

Amazing job, as always! I love the S.
Comment by igorrossi 4th october 2009
Thank you both - it was one of my early attempts that seems to have been a 'sleeper'.

I had notseen this one before.
Great job, P2pnut.
I`m jealous, but in a good way :)

This font is stupendous! Even without a design background, you have certainly earned your place among FontStruct's elite. 10!

I've recently browsed the list of Top Picks again, the best 1000. Judging by the technical merits Albion should have a place in that list: it could well be in the first 100, or even in the first 10. Originality is another question. It is based on Old English, and thanks to FS limitations it's a bit rough around the edges, and differs significantly from the original. As I said before, I very much liked this poligonal, crude, unpolished quality.
Comment by Frodo7 2nd november 2009
I agree, I can't see how this one has been missed as a Top Pick.

Out of 20 votes, it has 19 10s!
Comment by aphoria 2nd november 2009
Thank you all for your encouraging comments :)

More Latin diacritics etc. added. Hopefully this will be enough. I am always happy to add any glyphs that are required for languages other than English ... and to correct any faults that anyone may notice.

I couldn't resist a quick toot on my own trumpet ...

This one does seem to have struck a chord at 1001 doesn't it?

It's strange because all my other fonts on 1001 Fonts seem to be around the 1000-3000 download mark.

Congratulations! FontStruct Staff have deemed your FontStruction worthy of special mention. “RM Albion” is now a Top Pick.
Comment by afrojet 16th april 2010
Wow. 10,000 downloads and not even a 'top pick' here, where it was born. That needs to be corrected.
Comment by afrojet 16th april 2010
At last, you've got the pink badge. Surely, it's been overlooked, because of FS' linear fashion as it displays fonts. At the same time your font jumped to the top of the Top Pick list with very strong ratings. I hope it will stay there for long. Congratulations.
Comment by Frodo7 16th april 2010
10gees?
well ithink this is comes close to playing in royal class ...
Comment by kix 17th april 2010
10,000 downloads?

Holeymoley!

You need to stop giving it away for free.

Even at $1 each and a 10th of downloads then, that's a $1000. Or at $10 each and 1% of previous downloads, that's still a $1000. For no additional work.

Might I recommend myfonts.com.
Comment by thalamic 17th april 2010
Not that I've ever sold anything. So...
Comment by thalamic 17th april 2010
Also, on a more fs related note: Top Picked but no where to be found in the What's New list. This is because What's New sorts fontstructions based on first shared date and NOT first TP awarded date. Kinda unfair to the overlooked fontstructions.
Comment by thalamic 17th april 2010
Cheers for the Top Pick aj :)

Thanks all for your support. I must confess I hardley ever look at the TP or What's New lists (nor had I been checking 1001 Fonts recently) so this is all quite a surprise ... and a great pleasure.

@ Luuk Mölders: Absolutely true, the same thing happens to me, and it's just one of the many wonderful creations made by the great Master Ray Meadows, aka p2pnut! (Sorry, Ray, I wanted to say Mast*r.)
