Imagine my surprise when I discovered this

The entry is under my name - Ray Meadows. Sorry to blow my own trumpet, but I was just staggered to see it :)

I already came upon this page several times. Pretty mysterious.

Well, it’s really not that mysterious. Yes his pages are totally packed with data and nearly devoid of explicit introduction (especially if you navigate to them directly from a search engine), but essential this cool guy (Luc Devroye) has been cataloging various electronic typography resources for years and years now. He’s a Computer Science professor at McGill University and has been admirably generous enough to make it a rich and publicly accessible archive.

It used to be a lot more free-associative – just these epic long lists with general headings, often slowly accumulating broken links. They were (and still are) rife with quick inline observations dispersed as the most immediate, if not user friendly, descriptors. Very rough and of-the-moment. But, if not exhaustive, it is quite extensive. As a side note, he keeps everything for posterity (you can even find note of my old deleted work), even if he knows for a fact that a link has expired or the resource cited is otherwise gone gone gone.

Check here for a fairly comprehensive list of fontstructors. You will see there how his current tagging system associates all fontstructors in his database, including those whose full descriptions include much more notable and diverse works (e.g. Mark Simonson’s Boxy series and hisBubblewrap fontstructions are enough to include his entire oeuvre under the “FontStruct Fonts” heading : ) He created a streamlined data input system where he can quickly create and classify new entries (designers, studios, resources) and also add new data to existing ones without manually inserting them into the html served to his site (as he clearly used to).

BTW, by being noted on his site, according to Luc’s main page you are cordially invited for drinks at his house in Montreal. Cheers! °>–i

LOL - so even Mr Meek's cat is likely to get an entry there ... it certainly is all-inclusive.

Still, it's good to know that there is always a drink waiting at McGill. Luc sounds like a cool dude :)

It must represent a lot lot of work if each font reference is added manually.

As Will said, there's no mystery here. Luc Devroye's extensive font pages became my primary resource a few years ago; in fact, that's where I learned about FontStruct a couple of weeks after its release.

When Luc began to include some of my fonts on his Monospaced and Octagonal lists, I emailed him to express my gratitude and to inform him that I had already taken the liberty of naming two geometric dingbat fonts after him (LucDevroyeMono1 and 2). He asked if I would allow him to change all my listings from "fontcollector" to my real name, and I agreed. I'm telling you this because if I'd known your actual name and had seen it on his pages, I would have pointed you there immediately! Incidentally, I'm Dan. You're welcome to refer to me as such if you wish.

Luc told me that he's two years younger than I am, which means his age is about five years below yours. Just a bunch a geezers, eh?

For some time now, I've suspected that RM were your initials. It even crossed my mind that perhaps you were Rob Meek in disguise! :>)

P.S. Luc Devroye must have picked up your real name by downloading and opening your font.

In the future, if you want your copyrights to be shown as p2pnut (although you've already blown your cover), you can go to your settings to specify the use of the pseudonym.

@Dan: No problem with my name being known - and it really is Ray ... not Rob Meek. If I had a small fraction of Rob's talent I'd be happy :)
