Just lovely! Everybody, check Em’s blog (and Behance post) linked from the image above for even more yumminess.

So Em, did you cook the ziti first to get the graceful curves in the real deal?

Larger pictures and other samples are on House42 blog and on the Behance Network.

Thanks Will, I spent the whole Sunday morning with my friend Gi cooking pasta and cutting it into pieces for the sample images, and we had a lot of fun.

And I'm glad you like the curves: we struggled a lot (unsuccessfully) to keep the pasta as straight as possible to reproduce the FontStruction appearance.

Mmm, yummy, tricky font, I bet it tastes even better with ketchup on! ;)

P.S. Great idea to mimic the shapes of cut spaghetti!

I'm not so sure about the kink in I,J,L,I,J,L,1 it looks like a print error. Have you tried them straight with slight gaps in between. Also have you tried narrowing the width of the lower case, to balance better with the upper? It seems a little wide at the moment. Here's an example of what I mean.

@Sahwar: Thanks for your comment! (FYI: Italians would never eat pasta with ketchup :)

@DJNippa: First thanks for the suggestions and for creating your version of Ziti, I'm flattered.

This fontstruction started as a faux lcd font: the lower case width is almost the same as the upper case width (just one brick narrower) to simulate the monospaced nature of LCD text, and some letters have kinks to simulate the quirkiness that characters based on LCD have.

As concerning the gap, it would have broken the design rule I set for designing this set (as I usually do :) that all the sections should have been connected at the corner.

I only did my version to explain my concerns clearly.
So if it started out as an LED font, but now it's not, then it's already changed into something else. The lower case in my opinion is like an expanded version of the uppercase. To still keep your rule then what about maybe try this.

Delicious! A great entry for the homemade competition. You can really sense the fun that went into it.

Felice di stare qui. Non abbiamo nulla da fare contro la squadra Azzurra. Bravo ancora un altra volta, FSmaster.

For me this is the strongest work for Hanmadecomp... the font is beautiful and the real world application is great. Bravo Em42 you have a sharp design eye.

MY FAVE HANDCOMP :)

@Upixel: your words are too kind!

This font indeed was started before the handmade competition rolled out, but the name and the concept were already there.

The competition was just the occasion to finalize and release it, and of course to cook the sample!
