You could use the irregular thickness to your advantage though, and make a more unique font. You already have some unusual glyphs which I like, such as 4.
I agree that consistency of stroke width is important. It gives a better balance to a design and makes it more legible.

I'll try to do my best in my Future fonts ;). When I'm done with two fonts in progress I'll make lower case letters for this one.
