Starting from the word fluid I developed this font with the aim of incorporating several characteristics pertaining to the word itself. Each letter in the font flows from one to the next; a sense of motion continuing throughout. I looked at surface tension on liquids and tried to make the shape of the font reflect the constraints of this tension. I especially looked at wax turning from liquid to solid and the rigid shape it formed. It's quite simplistic so I would like to work more with it to see how I can include more texture that could link with the light reflections on the surface.

'Repertor' is a display typeface inspired by hand-rendered calligraphy and brush stroke textures. The typeface evolved from exploring physical properties of my starting theme 'motion' and combining this with nautical elements, mostly found close to Bristol Harbour - the name 'Repertor' has been taken from a Thames sailing barge. This is a clone

The font Flomotion is the outcome to my first semester at UWE, studying Graphic Design. The task was to create a full typeface on the font building website, fontstruct.com. The final design had to relate to a chosen theme, my chosen theme for this project was Motion in which I pursued the subject of optical illusions. I liked the idea of trying to create a false sense of movement with a font, taking inspiration from existing optical illusions with the same effect. This then led me to look at the 'Op' art movement of the 1960's, in particular the extensive work of Bridget Riley. Her use of black and white line giving the illusion of depth had a big influence on my work and I think my final design reflects this.

This is my first FontStruction while currently studying graphic design at Bristol UWE.
Lots of experimentation solely using paints; quick hand movements and flicks to produce a messy, unrefined effect. Working in less than 1 second for each letter (with real paints), used as reference. Inspired by East Asian calligraphy.

doesn't use anything new, but with all the energy on the site today, i got motivated to finish something :) i guess this is a multi-inline, pseudo-stencil-ish, art deco-ish type of font.

A typeface created as part of our first project on the Graphic Design course at UWE. The project was to centre a typeface around a theme and to create the typeface on Fontstruct. My chosen theme was Motion. I chose to use the motion of water for the basis of my project and used its properties to distort and disfigure popular serif typefaces. After many experiments with baths, basins and trips to the local fountains Alphawet was created.
