This font was created around the theme of repetition, it was inspired by Art Deco design and how repetition and pattern aren't just pointless ornaments but fundamental to the structure of the font. I have been able to reach this stage after 5 weeks of continuous development, sketching and experimentation which I focused around trying to create a bridge between 2D and 3D fonts. Built up of a single repeated component this font is not suitable or made for large amounts of text, but instead has been created to highlight the strength and complexity of each individual letter. http://oliver-james-town.blogspot.co.uk
This font was created around the theme of unstable. It was developed from shapes and structures of scaffolding. I began looking at how each part of scaffolding is pivotal in creating a solid structure and if a part was to be removed it would become unstable and collapse. Each letter form is molded from different parts of a scaffolding frame, such as c-clips etc. The outcome was very engineered/mechanical and is probably best used as a display font for businesses.
The main theme of this typeface is based on tension and the structure of muscle and muscle fibers. Originally I started off with the word energise and from there I looked at sugar and then the consumption of sugar which helps fuel your body and muscles. I then began to explore muscle forms and how it is structured around bones, ligaments and how it is intertwined. I then tried to translate this all into letterform.
OIL RIG is based on the theme "destructive" particulary with regards to environmental destruction. I based my font on the structure of oil rigs; I think they have sense of beauty about them, but behind that there is a sinister note, as they are facilitating the human led destruction of our planet.
The extraction of oil for the manufacture of products such as plastic, is having a detrimental effect on our planet. Oil spills eradicate marine communities, and plastic products pollute our oceans. This is an issue which I feel needs more attention.
UPPERCASE DISPLAY FONT
I created this font inspired by my theme 'Dangerous'. I wanted my font to look dark and scary, which could be used for advertisement for horror films or shows. I created this 'dangerous' affect by using sharp straight edges rather than curves, I also varied the black thickness in lines so that it stood out.
