Type to draw! See the sample for an example of how I do it.
1 space = 1px of spacing. Use 8 spaces to start a new block and 16 spaces to start a second block which is 8px away from the first. This fine space exists to allow any sort of pixel art to be drawn within an infinitely large "canvas".

How to simplify the drawing process: Make a template, "draw" by replacing each ., then transcribe that to a new line.

I've begun working on a music visualizer which draws using this font. It's a backward sort of way to make such a thing work, but it's suited for non-graphical environments (such as my text-based games).
Next stage: Make a 4-row-tall version of Voluspa 3 which interfaces with PixelGen so that users can draw easily & interactively within an IRC chat!
