10/10 just for the sample pic! ;-)

Nice work. What did people do before inventing nostalgia? 10/10

@riccard0 -- Thanks for the generous score. I enjoyed recreating that high score screen, and am even happier you liked it!

@Frodo7 -- Those people were busy inventing the originals! :^) Hope you don't mind being fifth place in my sample pic.

(•^_^•) Your high score role call gave me a warm feeling. Thanks, GM!

The font itself is well conceived and executed. Utterly convincing retro styling, like it has always been there, yet totally new. I always knew you would push these pixel faces – so lovingly recreated – toward new horizons. All caps look great with a subtle hebrew flair; the lowercase conforms to the monospace and yet is quite genial. 10/10

Congratulations! FontStruct Staff have deemed your FontStruction worthy of special mention. “Generic Video Game Font 01” is now a Top Pick.
Comment by Rob Meek (meek) 7th november 2011
You can almost hear the 'bleeps' coming from that great sample. Great font as well. 10/10

PS I'm just pleased to be on a high score list in the first place ... it rarely happens in real life :)

Cool font and sample. Thanks for including me in your high scores list. :)
Comment by aphoria 7th november 2011
@meek -- Thank you for the Top Pick, Rob. As always, 'tis a great honor!

@will.i.ૐ -- Thank you so much for the (overly) generous comment! (•^_^•) I have an "inverted" version coming up to complement the design of this one. And as for your inclusion on the list, you are certainly one of the "Giants of FontStruct" in my book!
Comment by Goatmeal 7th november 2011
@p2pnut -- Thanks, p2pnut! While coming up with the sample pic, I tried to think of the many "Giants of FontStruct" who were around when I first arrived here 2½ years ago. Though a few on the list aren't here as often, you have earned a well-deserved place on the list, IMHO. ;^)

@aphoria -- Thank you for the kind words! Your FS designs have certainly been inspiring to me and many others, hence your inclusion.

This font has certainly earned each 10 vote, including mine. And the sample is simply terrific, as several people have stated already. It reminds me of the countless hours I spent playing Donkey Kong wherever I could find an available machine!

I'm a bit embarrassed to have to ask you this, but does FNTCL represent me? If so, I'm extremely honored and flattered to be placed in such distinguished company! And if it refers to some other FontStructor, my complimentary remarks stand anyway. :>)
Comment by fontcollector 7th november 2011
@fontcollector -- Funny you should mention Donkey Kong, because I duplicated the color scheme of Donkey Kong's high score display for my own sample pic!

Yes, FNTCL is you. :^)

And thank you for your comments; they really mean a lot to me.

I just realised now that I'm in the sample as well. Thank you Goatmeal!
Comment by Christian Munk (CMunk) 11th november 2011
@CMunk -- You have definitely earned your place on that list of "FS Giants"! :^)
Comment by Goatmeal 12th november 2011
@CMunk: I heartily second that. If you don’t belong higher up on the scores (which you do, in my book. though there’s really no comparison in this game of beauty and innovation) you definitely deserve notice for all the special levels you have unlocked. To date: coolest work featured on a FontStruct T-shirt. That’s for starters! :~)

For these two samples pics: due to the nature of the pic's inspiration, the placement of the names are only here because everyone cannot be "#1" in a video game environment.

The name placements in these two sample pics are more or less random... maybe a little higher for some of the more prolific FSers...

I think of them as more "inclusionary lists", as opposed to "rankings". As such, everyone on these lists are #1 to me. ;^)

Agreed! :D You know, I have dreamed time and again of a real FontStruct Video game – kinda like Rock Band for typophiles. Well, more like a game of telephone. It starts out with one glyph. The next ‘player’ is supplied with this single glyph and has to make a letter that could belong in the same family. Then passes on their creation to the next ‘player’ while hiding the results of the first player. And so on.

If the first character is exotic enough...who knows where the chain might go! (In fact, this inspiration comes from a font foundry who did such an experiment in their office for laughs, and published the results somewhere...If only I could remember who and when – but I remember the why!) :)
