This Fonstruction was created in my first year studying graphic design at UWE. The design brief was to create a typeface using the key word; 'ornate'. I have taken heavy influence from gothic fonts and architecture, looking in particular at religion and religious texts. Your spacing needs some work, but this is good work.
Comment by aphoria 11th november 2011
Thanks :) its still work in progress, will make sure the spacing gets done though!

More or less complete, all feedback welcome!!! Thank you :)

Congratulations! FontStruct Staff have deemed your FontStruction worthy of special mention. “Apostle XIII” is now a Top Pick.
Comment by Rob Meek (meek) 22nd november 2011
This is nice. Have you thought of making the 'A' an upper case A rather than a lower case. Same goes for the E. Do you think Q needs a bit of work, I think it looks kind of odd. Also your T could easily be mistaken for an F.
Comment by djnippa 22nd november 2011
All thoughts that had occurred to me, I found myself working to a very strict angle pattern to make letter forms, T in particular was a struggle to produce, perhaps without the cross passing through the stem it would be more obvious? The font is based on church script and I found that some gothic fonts chopped and changed between upper and lower case in display fonts but obviously its a constant work in progress!

I think my previous comment was before you added the decoration.

I just wanted to add, that I love it.

This font look soooo nice! Where did you get that?
Comment by ingie912 23rd november 2011
Thanks :) the idea for the letter shapes is originally from bible text and old gothic fonts. The ornamentation came from development of patterns based mainly on 3 different sizes of circles

I miss that one , this font isa so beautiful.
great work
Comment by Michel Troy ~UrbanPixel~ (Upixel) 11th december 2012
I think this font is unfinished (nothing about numbers, nothing about other glyphs like "&, $, %, etc", nothing about accents...). The space on the right of the "d" must be adjusted, IMHO.
Comment by elmoyenique 11th december 2012
But I like it!. Congrats for the TP and the FD!
Comment by elmoyenique 12th december 2012
Very nice work. You should be proud of it!

I am having trouble creating fonts that seem appealing (No pun intended). Any ways I could improve myself?

Comment by Master Overlord (Spooge99) 18th february 2013
For this particular project I wasn't designing to appeal to anyone it was more about freedom of creative license and pleasing myself. The fact that the Fonstruction has been chosen as a Top Pick etc was an added bonus.
However if you really want to appeal to others maybe just try identifying a gap and make something that you know that yourself and others would definitely have a use for, a lot of useful type design is based on borrowing elements from other fonts rather than extreme wild creatvitity.
Hope that helps?

@djnippa I've cloned this font and fixed the upper 'A' if you are interested. :-) See my "MacBethCalligraphy". (I also did very minor cleanup work on 'H'.)

I am aware these glyphs: uppercase 'E', 'Q', and 'Z' still need to be fixed. :-/
Comment by Michaelangel007 23rd march 2013
@Michaelangel007 very nice, the fonstruction is pretty old now but if I remember rightly at the time I chose to design lowercase letters as I saw its use as being more decorative/display than text based. Having said that I did use it for some body text and it was fairly readable. Appreciate your time and effort in redesigning some letters though!
Comment by WasteOfPaper 25th march 2013
Pretty! seems like it took a long time. :)

Impressive for a bitmap based typeface!

Hey, WasteOfPaper, could you hide the comment at the top by Ben Neenan? "M**********r" is a big-time bad word and one guy once got arrested for using that word (along with EIGHT others) in a comedy routine.
Comment by Bismuth 27th may 2013
I agree with Bismuth. There are children on this site too.
Comment by Noah F. Ross (winty5) 27th may 2013
Comment has been hidden, I can assure you that Ben meant no offense by posting that. It has been a surprise quite how much exposure the fontstruction has gained. Regards, M

I really like this. I totally agree that the capital letters meet the definition of "ornate." The lowercase letters have a really nice Gothic feel to it too (they all do, really). Excellent job! Keep up the awesome work.

you should call yourself waste of ink maybe not waste of paper and at 80 plus dollars a refill for my Ink I am concerned.. all that fancy linework around the letters and the overal boldness of your letters must take up a LOT of ink, so although I like your font and it looks rather nice, I would not be printing it out anytime soon on my printer, also which are your upper case and lower case letters? I hate ambiguity, so if you solved the ambiguity problem then Kudos to you.

Comment by KaliGrapher 21st august 2018

well I suppose I could print it out, but with a very light grey.. wonder how that would work.. hmmmm

Comment by KaliGrapher 21st august 2018

what's the lightest color that is still seeable on white?

Comment by anonymous-1520403 21st august 2018

Hexadecimal color #CBDBFC is pretty good for that purpose.

I want to contribute to the rest of the discussion here, or maybe I don't... feels like both...

Comment by zephram 21st august 2018

OMG. It must have taken forever. I can't believe so many people just have "constructive" comments. Man, the work! It's really impressive. And, yes, it's not perfect perfect, but can we acknowledge it's a LOT better than most of us are able to do. Wow, I'm stunned.

Comment by AudreeAdam 29th april 2019

Hmmm... this is much more impressive than ever.  Exemplary work.

Comment by SymbioticDesign 29th april 2019
