Richter is a font inspired by the idea of instability. I initially looked at the idea of falling; the aftermath of an earthquake. However, the current design looks not at the aftermath of an earthquake, but at the aftermath of falling. The design is heavily inspired by breaking, smashing and the general consequences of an unstable object splitting apart.
For our font project I chose the theme unstable as this word interested me the most. From taking images of cracked surfaces around Bristol I decided that I would focus on this as my theme looking at unstable surfaces as found this an interesting topic to focus on. From my photography I created drawings of cracked paint work and then from these I used the crack drawings to create the shapes of my font creating the letters themselves. I feel my font is very unique and original.
