You could say that coffee is my main source of living aside from water and food. As a coffee enthusiast, you notice changes to your body after drinking 1 or 2 cups of coffee, most notably, shaky hands. This font was created after a long day of drinking coffee. As I sat down to sketch down my ideas, I noticed that my drawing was shaky. I chose to incorporate the shakiness in the font and exaggerate it to showcase the effect of drinking coffee on your drawing ability, hence the name “Coffee High”. The font “Coffee High” has a lot of roundness and almost bubbliness to it, which is combined with lots of curves to create a shaky effect.
THEME: PROTECT
INSPIRATION: PRISONS
With the font I researched and looked into Gaul where the structure had minimal spaces, solid walls and in the 1700's the prison architecture included a panoptical view where by the guard had a view of all prison cells.
This inspired me to create a font based on the Panoptical aspect of prisons and how it would be adapted in the future prison architecture.
I included slanted parts in the font cutting across to represent the view of the guard ( panoptican view ). The font comprises of thick and thin walls representing the concept of a prison with thick walls and the prison bars. Combining these aspects the font has a feeling of solidity and uniformity.
This font was created with a decorative theme. I wanted it to be fun and retro. I really took inspiration from the lates 70s, 80s. And what was more fun and decorative then that era?
I wanted to create a font with a retro, contemporary-geometric combination.
I chose to take influence from the past for this font because I truly believe there is something special about how we are able to re-invigorate and capture the past through creating new fonts to then share into the world.
Mess disperses in the environment around us on a daily basis. The development was the key principle infuencing my design. I used personal mess from my desk that I had created during my attempts to design the right type face to represent "messy". My fontstruct is a representation of the clutter that builds up and scatters around us in everyday life, leaving us running on the edge and sometimes a little missplaced.
