UWE Graphic Design project - communicating with words.
I chose the word "chaos" to create a typeface of my own choice. My research and process thought lead to me to create a font which incorporated my childhood. I started off looking at road maps, train maps and the london underground to start off my research, which was my initial idea. However, although maps are ordered and not chaotic at all, situations and the environment around you can cause chaos and stress. The maps of the London underground lead me to the thought process of looking at maps from my childhood and designing a typeface that was unique to me.

Monospaced typeface designed for my first year project at UWE. The main theme of the font was developed by looking at decaying buildings and structures as well as graffiti artwork.

Balloon Face
A fun typeface with a hand rendered feel, inspired by the art of balloon sculpturing. Also a take on the popular graffiti style of bubble writing, as seen and researched in bristol city centre.

Negative Chaos is the end result of a typography project at Uwe. My theme word was 'chaos' I began exploring the meaning of this word. This led to several experiments exploring how I could use marks or patterns to express chaos. My favourite experiment used the stencil of the letter and then used drops of ink, the negative space of the letter was left once the stencil was removed and surrounding this were random drops of ink. Each letter was therefore unique so there was already an element of chaos in the typeface, but I also felt the effect of ink created an energetic feeling which felt chaotic.

UWE 'Communicating With Words' Graphic Design project.
I chose to look at the theme 'Decay', and was inspired by Andy Goldsworthy, Anna Garforth, Daniele Del Nero, and natural occurrences such as rotting fruit and mould.
I grew mould and made observational sketches, experimenting with a range of drawing techniques.
I then drew out my font, and used graph paper to translate it into pixels.
I feel this font could be used for things such as health posters for sexual health or smoking advertisements, or in children's books, due to the natural rounded quality.

I created this font for a graphic design project at bristol uwe. A font inspired by door handles, gates, anything that has an 'entrance' and is ornate looking. Alot of my research was carried out in Bath. I experimented with photography and wire to start with but mostly focused on drawing. The main elements to my type are vines and swirls. This is a clone

Rot Sans is the type face inspired by decay to find its place in the horror genre and all things decay. The typeface has been developed as a display font, perfect for a whithered away theme. This is a clone

I produced this for my "communicating with words" on the graphic design course at UWE Bristol, England. It inspired by weight and gravitation. The way different part drop down away from the base lines, it showed the gravitation on earth.

This font was inspired by the word chaos. Initially to me chaos meant incoherent mess, but after looking at chaos theory i began looking at ways to order chaos. To show this in my font I have used a regimented typeface with repeated ideas of thick and thin lines, but juxtaposed this restriction by forming the letters with chaotic scribbles.
