This typeface is based on the hand-painted names seen on the side of canal boats. The inconsistent, grainy texture of each letter is meant to represent the irregularities in using paint, for example the general wear and tear from the elements like chipped or peeling edges. This was my approach to the idea of “analogue” and a brief set to explore what that means. To me, in the context of the brief, analogue could be defined as possessing a nostalgic or "old school" quality- something replicated in an unauthentic manner in order to create a look-alike imitation of a time gone by. I focused on the old method of transport in Bristol: boats. To further this idea of a 'time gone by', I created this font in the set to look like ink stamped letters.

Featuring a grand total of 1085 glyphs! If we do glyph number translation, 1085 translates to October 1985, back when the Nintendo Entertainment System first launched in North America!

Ethoma is a simple, low-resolution pixel bitmap font, intended to share the industrial, squared visual style seen in Tahoma and MS Sans Serif.
Originally known as Elt. Sistema, Ethoma was designed by Daniel Philip Fox and initially released in May 2017, as a font for personal use which gave the robust results of MS Sans Serif, but avoiding licensing and distribution issues and refining some glyphs for better legibility and crispness. Over time, the font gained incremental changes, for example increasing the roundness of certain glyphs such as the lowercase 'n', eventually forming the present-day version of Ethoma, a highly legible and pixel-optimised bitmap font optimised for any length of body text, without sacrificing the delicious classic look.
2019 marks the 100th year of the existence of Bauhaus. In honour of this iconic art movement, I have designed my first Fontstruction based on the minimalist and structured design which embodied the movement from 1919 until the mid-1930s. In order to create this Bauhaus inspired font, I have kept to 5 different 'blocks', that create the form and a 5x7/6 size allowance to keep a uniform structure.
